Part three

 

1、Do you think present children are happier than those in the past?

你认为现在的孩子比以前的孩子快乐吗?

 

In my view, the present children might not be as happy as those in the past. They have fewer playgrounds since there is increasingly more urban expansion. Many of them have never seen a frog or a sheep, let alone playing in the real nature with birds and enjoying the beautiful natural sceneries. In addition, the present children in China are usually under heavy pressure. They're forced to learn many skills so as to be more adapted to the society when they grow up.

我觉得现在的孩子似乎并没有像以前的孩子那般快乐。由于城市的扩张,他们玩要的地方越来越少。他们当中很多人甚至从没看到过青蛙和绵羊,更不用说和小鸟一起到真正的大自然玩要,欣赏美丽的自然风景。此外,现在中国的孩子背负着很大的压力,为了长大后能在这个社会有更强的竞争力,他们被迫学习很多技能。

 

2、Is it good for children to learn instruments?

让孩子学习乐器好吗?

 

It is said that the children who have learned a musical instrument may score 40 points higher in the Scholastic Aptitude Test. It's definitely beneficial for a child to learn certain kind of musical instrument. Besides, it will have a positive effect on certain abstract types of reasoning. Many parents have long been convinced of the cultural and intellectual"enrichment" the arts provide children.

据说那些学习乐器的孩子在学术能力测试上比普通孩子高40分。掌握某种乐器对孩子来说确实很有益,而且对于培养孩子的抽象思维推理能力也有积极作用。很多家长也深信这样可以丰富孩子的艺术造貨。

 

3、Is it good for children to wear uniforms at school?

你觉得孩子穿校服好吗?

 

I strongly support the benefits that school uniform can bring as it helps to promote a good sense of belonging to a community and reduce fashion contests. Besides, it contributes to a healthy academic environment where children can learn completely free of distractions. In addition, it increases security by making it obvious who is not supposed to be on campus.

我非常支持在校穿校服,这不仅能促进形成一种归属感,而且还减少了盲目攀比。同时,它也营造一种很健康的学术氛围,让孩子在学习上不分心。此外,它也加强了学校的安全,因为一下子就能看出哪位不是这个学校里的学生。

 

4、If you have a child, will you send him or her to a single-sex school?

假如你有孩子,你会送他或她去单一性别的学校吗?

 

Single sex schools are usually academically well organized but in a co-educated school the understanding of the other sex is better and students will have better social skills with both sexes. So, my opinion is that both single and co-educated schools have pros and cons. More importantly is that I will let my child choose because he is the one going to the school. I'll ask him what he's comfortable with and give me the reasons why he wants to go to this type of school.

单一性别的学校通常有很好的学术组织,但是两性学校里,学生对于异性的理解会更好,在与其他同学交流方面,会掌握更好的社交技巧。所以这两种性质的学校各有优缺点。更重要的是我会让孩子作出他自己的选择,因为他才是上学的那个人。我会问他更喜欢哪个学校并得给我理由,为什么会选择这类学校。

 

5、What are the problems in primary education in your country?

在你的国家小学教育存在什么问题?

 

There are several problems existed in primary education in China. First of all, the primary students are under more pressure than the ones in other countries. They are usually forced to learn many skills which might be difficult for the primary students. Secondly, the teaching system in schools still tends to ask primary students to do lots of memorization,whatever subject it is. This will actually restrain the children's creativity. In a word, there're not enough teaching methods to promote students' creativity.

在中国,小学教育存在一些问题。首先,小学生的压力比其他国家的小学生更大,他们通常被迫学习很多那些对于小学生来说很难的技能。其次,在教授系统方面仍然让孩子死记硬背很多内容,这样就会禁铺孩子的创造力。总之,提高孩子创造力的方法还不够。

 

6、 Is it convenient for children to play in the suburbs?

孩子到郊区玩方便吗?

 

Nowadays it's quite inconvenient for children to play in the suburb. As the society progresses, urbanization has been a trend in cities, be it large or small. The area of the suburbs has been greatly decreased. Most children might have never been to suburbs since they were born. It usually takes a long time over a long distance to play in the suburbs.

现在孩子想到郊区玩非常不方便。随着社会的进步,不管城市的大小,城市化总是一个趋势,这样一来郊区变得越来越少。绝大多数孩子打从他们出生,可能从没去过郊区,想要到郊区玩要可能要花费很多时间才能到达很远的郊区。
