I’m going to talk about a Chinese TV documentary about delicious foods—A Bite of China，which I watched two years ago. The documentary introduces the history and story behind foods of various kinds in more than 60 locations in mainland China，Hong Kong and Taiwan.

I have learnt a lot from this documentary. Firstly，I have had a better understanding of the customs of my country. For example，in Zhanjiang area，the south of China，relatives send rice as fifts to welcome the arrival of newborn babies. And I have also gained many things about food culture and have understood that food culture may differ in different regions. After watching the documentary，I have developed an interest in cooking. So far，I’ve learnt how to bake pancakes and cook chicken soup.

What I find most interesting about this documentary are the stories behind the food. One of the impressive stories is about the staple food—noodles. Noodles are the most popular staple food on birthday for Chinese people. There is an old village in Shanxi Province called Ding Village. At the birthday banquet there，there is a ritual requiring the participation of all villagers. Before eating the noodles，all the people pick out the longest noodles in the bowl and put it into the bowl of the one who celebrates the birthday，in the hope that he or she would live a long life. Perhaps on my next birthday，my friends and I will have a try，which is gonna be fun.

我发现这个纪录片最有趣的就是美食背后的故事。其中一个令人印象深刻的故事是关于注释—面条。对于中国人来说，面太是生日那天最受欢迎的主食。山西省有个一座古老的村庄，称为丁村。在那儿的生日宴会上，有一个需要所有村民参与的习俗。吃面条前，所有的人都需要选出他们自己碗里最长的一根面条，放在过生日的那个人碗里，希望他/她能长命百岁。也许在我下次过生日时，也会和朋友尝试一下，这一定很有趣。
