2020-10-15

PART 1

The examiner asks the candidate about him/herself, his/her home, work or studies and other familiar topics

范例

Friends

1.E:Are your friends mostly your age or different ages?(Why?)

C: Well, to be frank, most of my friends are about my age. The reasons are pretty simple. As a student,I just spend most of my time with my classmates who are about the same age like mine. And some of them naturally turned into my friends. I guess another reason is that it's much easier for people with similar age to communi-cate and become soul mates.

2.E: Do you usually see your friends during the week or at weekends?(Why?)C: Just as what I have said, most of my friends are my classmates; therefore, the chances for us to see each other are just the weekdays when we are at school. However, if something comes up during the weekend, say, someone is go-ing to throw a birthday party, we will call one another and get together.

3.E: The last time you saw your friends, what did you do together?

C: Well, let me see, just three days ago, I and my best buddy, Jack, went to see an American blockbuster Transformer. That was an awesome experience, because we are both English movie fans and have been waiting so long for the release of it.

4. E: In what ways are your friends important to you?

C: There is no doubt that friendship is something we should cherish all our lives. I have to say I really love making friends, for I can't imagine a life without any friends. Just like a saying goes "He who would do great things should not attempt them all alone."No one can become successful without the help from his friends. True friends will always be there for you when you are in deep water. Besides, they will be the best listeners when you feel so lonely and need to talk to somebody.

This maybe sounds like a cliche, but it's an accepted fact that China has a history of more than 5 000 years. As a result, it's a country with numerous historic places. If you ask me to choose one to represent all of them, I will not hesitate and tell you it's the Great Wall. From Shanhaiguan, northeast of Qinhuangdao City, the Great Wall rises and falls with the contour of the mountains westward, crossing several provinces, for 6 700 kilometres, to end at Jiayu guan, southwest of Jiayuguan City in Gansu Province. I went there last year with some of my friends, it was amazing. The Great Wall we saw mostly dates back to the Ming Dynasty, and the best-preserved and most imposing section is at Badaling in Beijing. You can see that the section is made of large blue bricks and has an average height of 7.8 meters. Five to six horses can be ridden abreast along it. The walls are covered with many lookout holes. Apart from its long history, it is also the largest man-made monument ever to have been built and it is disputed that it is the only one visible from outer space. Oh, you know what, recently it was elected as the new 7 wonders of the world and ranked Top 1. If you have a chance, you should definitely pay a visit there. As the famous saying goes, "You're not a real man if you haven't climbed the Great Wall . " It's so worthwhile .

PART 3

Discussion Topics:

范例

Looking after historic places

1.E:How do people in your country feel about protecting historic buildings?

C: Well, in the past, maybe not many people realised the importance of protecting the historic buildings, instead they tended to focus on economic development. However, people's concept about this issue has changed as time goes by. And more and more attention was paid to the preservation of our ancient buildings.

2.E: Do you think an area can benefit from having an interesting historic place locally? In what way ?

C: Oh, absolutely. A city can take advantage of historic places in many ways. For in-stance, a region can try to boom its tourism industry by attracting more travellers to visit those ancient places. More importantly, they can also open those places to the local kids, so the kids can really see and touch the "history" in person, rather than just read them from books. And I believe this is much more significant than the financial reason.

3. E: What do you think will happen to historic places or buildings in the future? Why?C: I guess historic places or buildings will be better preserved in the future. As I men-tioned before, both the governments and people are paying enormous attention to this issue. Some modern technology will be employed; meanwhile, new laws and regulations will be made in order to prevent those places or buildings from being de-stroyed, for doing these is equal to protecting our own culture and civilization.

The teaching of history at school

4.E:How were you taught history when you were at school?

C: I am always fascinated by history. Believe it or not, history was my favourite sub-ject when I was at school. One of the reasons I enjoyed it was because of my high school history teacher, Mr Fu. He was such a knowledgeable and humorous person that he liked to teach us history in an entertaining way which attracted everyone in the class and made us all laugh back and forth all the time. To us, he was an excel-lent story teller. I learned history mainly through his funny and vivid stories and anecdotes.

5. E: Are there other ways people can learn about history, apart from at school? How?C: There are some other ways for us to acquire history knowledge besides school. One direct way is to travel to the place where this historic event happened and to explore the buildings and relics there. Another way is pretty simple, you can just watch some historic documentaries or surf online to browse some relevant web pages at home.

6. E: Do you think history will still be a school subject in the future? Why?

C: I definitely believe so. History is something so essential to us that I can not imagine a day when we don't have to study it. As people used to say, "knowing the history is knowing your own culture and knowing who you really are. The day we abandon our history is the day we lose our identity."Moreover,we can learn lessons from the past and attempt to avoid the mistakes we made before, such as the two world wars. Anyway, no matter how time changes, we should not and will not forget our history.
